Getting started
Install in 3 steps
From download to your first invoice in under a minute.
- Step 1
Download the installer
Grab the one-click installer for Windows. No account, no credit card, no trial timer.
- Step 2
Run the installer
Launch it and follow the prompts. It installs per-user in seconds — no administrator rights needed.
- Step 3
Create your company
Open the app, create a company file, and start invoicing. Your data stays encrypted on your machine.
After you install
What happens on first run
No account, no setup wizard maze — here is exactly what to expect the first time you open Acronix Books.
Activate with your License Number
First launch asks for the License Number we issue you and a password you choose. There is no username — one owner per install, and that password both signs you in and derives the key your books are encrypted with, so it is never sent anywhere. Save the recovery code it shows you.
Create your first company
Then create a company file — its name, GSTIN and April–March financial year. Once you are activated the app works fully offline; you can be raising your first invoice within a minute.
Your data lives on your machine
The company file is stored locally on your own disk and encrypted at rest with AES-256. It never leaves your machine unless you deliberately take a backup or turn on cloud sync, so you stay in full control of your books.
Set up users & roles
Add users and assign role-based permissions (RBAC) to control who can view and post what. A per-user key vault and a recovery code protect access, and idle auto-lock secures sessions that are left unattended.
Build masters and start entering
Set up ledgers, tax categories, items, units and warehouses, then record vouchers at keyboard speed. When it is time to file, generate GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B and export your reports to PDF or Excel.
Always current
Automatic updates
Once installed, Acronix Books checks for new releases and updates itself in the background — no reinstalls, no interruptions.
Check for the latest version
Bundled with this release: v0.1.2
The installed desktop app checks this feed automatically in the background — you rarely need to do this yourself.
How the auto-updater works
You install once and stay current — the update flow is fully automatic, with a manual check available whenever you want to force it.
- Step 1
Checks the release feed
In the background, the installed app periodically checks the secure update feed for a newer published version. This is a lightweight check that never interrupts what you are doing.
- Step 2
Downloads in the background
When a newer release is found, it downloads quietly while you keep working. There is nothing to reinstall and no separate installer to hunt down.
- Step 3
Applies on restart
The update is applied the next time you restart Acronix Books, so you are always on the latest version without breaking your flow. You can also trigger a manual check any time.

Compatibility
Platforms & portability
What runs today, what is coming, and how your data travels with you.
Windows 10 & 11 (64-bit)
The current build targets 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 — the versions on the vast majority of office PCs today. It runs comfortably on everyday hardware from 4 GB RAM upward and needs only about 200 MB of disk for the app and your data. 32-bit Windows is not supported.
Linux (AppImage & .deb)
Linux is available today as a universal AppImage that runs on most distributions with no installation, plus a .deb for Debian and Ubuntu. It runs on the same everyday hardware as the Windows build.
macOS status
The macOS build (Apple Silicon and Intel) is actively in the pipeline but not released yet. Leave your email on the platform cards above and we will notify you the moment it is available to download.
Data portability & backups
Your books are yours to move. Take encrypted backup files on your own schedule and restore them whenever you need, or turn on optional cloud sync to keep an isolated encrypted copy that restores cleanly onto a fresh device — so switching PCs never means losing history.
FAQ
Before you download
Honest answers on cost, safety, your data, and platform support.
Is it free?
It is free to try, not free forever. The download and a 14-day trial cost nothing and need no card, with every feature unlocked. After that it is ₹11,999 a year plus GST for the single plan. Your books are a local encrypted file, so even if you never renew you keep full read and export access forever — only new entries stop.
Do I need an account to use it?
No. Working offline requires no account and no sign-up at all. You only provide an email if you choose to be notified about macOS or Linux, or if you later opt in to cloud sync and backup.
Is it safe to install? Why does Windows warn me?
Acronix Books is safe to install. Because it is early-access software that is not yet code-signed with a purchased certificate, Windows SmartScreen may show a "Windows protected your PC" prompt for a new publisher. You can proceed by choosing "More info" and then "Run anyway". Code signing is on the roadmap and will remove this prompt in a future release.
Where is my data stored?
On your own machine. Your company file is kept locally and encrypted at rest with SQLCipher (AES-256). Nothing is uploaded anywhere unless you explicitly take a backup or enable cloud sync.
How do I move to a new PC?
You have two options. Take an encrypted backup on your current PC and restore it on the new one, or turn on optional cloud sync, which keeps an isolated encrypted copy of your book and restores it cleanly onto a fresh device. Either way your full history comes with you.
When will macOS be available?
Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) and Linux (AppImage and .deb) are available now. The macOS build (Apple Silicon and Intel) is in the pipeline — leave your email on the platform cards above to be notified the moment it launches.
How big is the download and what does it need?
The Windows installer is roughly 80 MB. Once installed, Acronix Books needs about 200 MB of disk for the app and your data, runs on 4 GB of RAM (8 GB recommended), and works on any 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC.
How do updates work after I install?
Acronix Books keeps itself current. It checks the release feed in the background, downloads new versions automatically, and applies them on the next restart — no reinstalling. You can also run a manual check any time using the checker on this page.
