Packaging & Paper

The same board becomes a different item downstream

Packaging is a conversion trade wearing a trading trade’s clothes. Paper arrives as a reel and leaves as boxes cut to a buyer’s size, and the accounting question underneath is the awkward one: what did the thing you shipped actually cost to make from the thing you bought?

  • Stock journals
  • Perpetual COGS
  • FIFO + weighted-average
  • Job work (§143)
  • Multi-warehouse
  • E-way bill
The reality

What makes this trade different

Input and output are not the same item

A reel consumed and cartons produced is a real stock event. Software that only knows purchase and sale forces you to fake one of them.

Every buyer wants their own size

Specification is the product. A box is defined by dimensions, ply and board grade, and no two customers order quite the same thing.

Cost is decided by the input price

Kraft prices move. If the book cannot say what the reel behind this month’s dispatch cost, the quote you gave was a hope.

Bulk goods, bulk paperwork

Volume dispatch means vehicles and documents on nearly every outward movement.

How Acronix handles it

Features that exist, doing the actual work

Everything below is in the build you can download today.

Conversion as a two-legged stock journal

Reels out, converted stock in — one voucher, both legs, no invented customer or supplier to explain where the paper went.

Perpetual COGS instead of a year-end reveal

Cost of goods sold posts as you go rather than being reconstructed at closing, so the margin on a job is a number you can look at in the month you did it.

FIFO or weighted-average, per item

Board where the input price swings can run FIFO while consumables stay on weighted-average. Company default, per-item override.

Work sent to a converter

Job work tracking covers goods sent out for processing — the rate agreed per job worker and the §143 return exposure, as reports rather than reminders.

Multi-warehouse for raw and finished

Reel store and finished-goods godown tracked separately, with movements and valuation behind each.

E-way bill from the dispatch voucher

Generated off the voucher that moved the goods, so the document matches the movement by construction.

The honest comparison

Moving from older accounting software?

Where Acronix is genuinely different — and where the tool you have already does the job. No invented weaknesses.

Questions

Packaging & Paper — questions, answered

A reel comes in and cartons go out — different items. How is that recorded?

As a two-legged stock journal: the reel you consumed leaves stock and the converted cartons arrive in stock inside one voucher, with no invented customer or supplier to explain where the paper went. You enter what was consumed and what was produced, so the conversion is a real stock event.

Do I know a job's cost during the month, or only at year end?

Cost of goods sold posts as you go rather than being reconstructed at closing, so the margin on a job is a number you can look at in the month you did it instead of a hope you built into the quote.

Can board and consumables use different valuation methods?

Yes. Board, where the kraft price swings, can run FIFO while consumables stay on weighted-average — a company default with a per-item override, not one global switch.

Can I track goods sent to an outside converter?

Yes. Job work tracking covers goods sent out for processing, the rate agreed per job worker and the §143 return exposure, all as reports rather than reminders.

Is GST — e-way bill, GSTR-1, GSTR-3B — included for bulk dispatch?

Yes, in the single plan. The e-way bill is generated from the voucher that moved the goods, so the document matches the movement by construction, and GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and HSN-wise summaries read the same vouchers.

Can I track the reel store and finished goods separately?

Yes. Multi-warehouse keeps the reel store and the finished-goods godown as separate locations, each with its own movements and valuation behind it.
