Is Acronix Books free?
It's free to try, not free forever. Every feature is unlocked for a 14-day trial with no card required. After that it's ₹11,999/year + GST for the single plan — there's no per-invoice charge and no feature paywall; the price buys the whole product. Because your books are an encrypted file on your own machine, even if you never renew you keep full read and export access forever — the app only stops accepting new entries.
Which platforms are supported?
Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) and Linux (AppImage and .deb) today. The macOS build is in the pipeline — leave your email on the download page to be notified at launch.
Does it work offline?
Completely. Acronix Books is offline-first — every feature works with no internet connection. Cloud sync is optional and only used when you choose to connect.
Can it handle GST returns?
Yes. A dedicated GST module gives you the Sales, Purchase, Output Tax and Input Tax registers, a rate-wise HSN summary, and GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B exported to Excel for the GST portal / offline utility. It also prepares e-invoice and e-way bill data from the same vouchers. See the GST filing walkthrough.
How is my data protected?
Your entire book is encrypted at rest with AES-256 (SQLCipher), unlocked by a password-derived key with a recovery code as backup. There's an idle auto-lock, a tamper-evident audit log and role-based access control. Full detail in Security.
Can more than one person use the same book?
Yes. The envelope key vault supports per-user key slots, and capability-based RBAC with five role levels — Viewer, Operator, Accountant, Admin and Owner — lets you give each user only the access their role needs.
Can I move from Tally to Acronix Books?
Acronix Books uses the familiar Indian accounting model — ledgers, groups, vouchers and voucher series — so the concepts carry over directly. It's designed to feel faster and more modern than legacy tools while staying GST-ready. See our blog post on choosing a Tally alternative for GST billing.
How big a business can it handle?
The app virtualizes lists and stays responsive past 50,000 vouchers per financial year, with sub-200ms interactions — comfortable for growing businesses.
What happens to my data when the app updates?
Nothing — updates replace the application, not your book. Your encrypted database stays in place. See Updating the app.
How do I back up my data?
