Installing Acronix Books

Download the Windows installer, run the per-user setup with no admin rights, and launch the app for the first time.

Acronix Books ships as a lightweight desktop app for Windows. Installation takes under a minute and needs no administrator rights.

Download and install

On Windows:

  1. Download the installer: AcronixBooks-Setup-latest.exe (~80 MB).
  2. Double-click the downloaded file. This is a per-user installer — it installs into your own user profile, so Windows will not prompt for an administrator password.
  3. Wait a few seconds for setup to finish. Acronix Books launches automatically.

On Linux:

  • AppImage (any distribution): download AcronixBooks-latest.AppImage, mark it executable (chmod +x AcronixBooks-latest.AppImage) and run it. No installation is needed, and it auto-updates itself.
  • Debian / Ubuntu (.deb): download AcronixBooks-latest.deb and install it with sudo apt install ./AcronixBooks-latest.deb.

SmartScreen warning?

Early-access builds may show a Windows SmartScreen prompt because the code-signing reputation is still building. Click More info → Run anyway. This is expected for new applications and does not indicate a problem.

Before you install: your License Number

Acronix Books activates with a License Number — a code that looks like ACR-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. You need it to get into the app, so get it first.

Request a License Number — we'll issue one against your email and your 14-day trial starts from activation. There's no charge to request one and no card involved.

First launch

  1. Enter your License Number and set a password. There is no username — one owner per install, and the password is what signs you in.
  2. That password also derives the encryption key for your books, so it is never sent anywhere and cannot be reset for you — see Security.
  3. Save the recovery code shown to you. It's the only way back in if you forget your password. Store it somewhere safe and offline.
  4. You're in, on a 14-day trial with every feature unlocked. Next, create your first company.

Your password cannot be reset for you

Acronix Books encrypts your data with a key derived from your password. There is no central server that can reset it. If you lose both your password and your recovery code, your local book cannot be decrypted. Keep the recovery code safe.

Staying up to date

Once installed, the app auto-updates itself from the release feed in the background. You can also trigger a manual check any time — see Updating the app.
